McTeigue -- who served as an assistant to the Wachowskis on the "Matrix" trilogy, with which this film shares key themes -- moves a long and complex story along briskly, juggling flashbacks, fights and the occasional episode of exposition with verve. Unlike "The Matrix," which blew you away as a movie and then suggested its political and cultural themes in the wake of its impact, "V for Vendetta" puts its ideological intent first, and happens to provide smashing entertainment only as a vehicle for delivering its message. So I don't expect it will be as influential in the cinema. But it may be extremely influential in the world. (it) |
