As the movement expands in proportion to its scale and the increase in its membership, the duty of the member becomes greater than before. Every movement, and this is the nature of social movements and the nature of societies, is liable to lose some of its spontaneity, its freedom, its genuineness and to be submerged in conventional slogans, in words and to become an idol. It is not only persons who will become idols, but the movement and its ideals. This is the worst that can befall a movement that wants to be creative. (it) |
